Video game - Part 1

"Ok, the game is pretty simple. Go in and find the girl who looks like a chimpanzee. Once everyone sees her, the game is over" said Rob the leader over the headset.
"What are we waiting for? Let's go and get this party started. Chimpanzee girl, here we come, get ready to die." came another voice over the headset. It must be Mark, He was the only one who was crazy excited about the game, the rest of us had joined because it was his birthday and as we cannot celebrate it together under this lockdown, this was the one way we could be together.
"Listen, Mark, I don't want any of my men killed out there. If I am going to be leading this I want everyone to be on the same page here. No shooting anyone unless absolutely necessary. The game is pretty simple, we have three scenarios in which we need to find this girl, first is an abandoned military base, second an abandoned theatre, third is a house."
"Must be a pretty big house to be on level three. Any plans on how we are going to approach each building ?" said Sanjay always the voice of reason. I could almost hear his brain ticking coming up with all possible ways to approach each level.
For a bunch of 15-year-olds, we were a pretty neat group. We had our leader Rob, topper of the class, closely followed by Sanjay and Hari. You would think the competition would make them enemies but you could not find any closer friends. The only reason I was in this group was because I was new to our class this year and the teacher had asked Sanjay to help me with getting familiar with the curriculum. Mark was there because he was Rob's best friend since kindergarten. The reason he passed any tests was because Rob tutored him. But he brought in the much needed lightness and also crazy online video games to our group.
"So, shall we start ?" I asked, trying hard to sound enthusiastic. No one needs to know my absolute terror over having to play this game. It was just a game. I remembered the one time I paid paintball and survived till the end because I hid behind a hay bale and came out holding a white flag. I was the last surviving member of our team. I did not shoot anyone and no one shot me. My only thought in mind going in this game was the same don't shoot and don't get shot. If anyone could have foreseen the horrible turn of events, everyone would have gone in with the same thought, even Mark, especially Mark.
"Okay Anil, ready, here we go. Keep close people, it looks to be darker than expected. Move forward carefully and slowly." said Rob.
After almost 10 minutes of going through corridors after corridors and Mark losing us points by shooting at a broken table and some chairs, "Hey, can anyone hear that music, where do you think it is coming from ?" said Hari, talking for the first time since everyone logged in to the game.
"I hear it too. Maybe we can go down this corridor and see if the volume increases," said Sanjay beside an extremely excited person who could only be Mark. He was hopping around while everyone was walking.
"Let's shoot some mad looking suckers out there while we are at it. Let's go, woohoo." The fact that everyone was somber did nothing to dampen Mark's enthusiasm.
"Yes, the music seems to be coming from that door marked Cafeteria. Should we go in?" I said. "I read all of the instructions and there was no mention anywhere of following the music, but it looks like that is the only remaining way, I am tired of roaming around." said Rob "Kick down the door Anil, you are nearer." With my heart in my throat, I kick down the door to find around 20 people dancing with disco lights on. And everyone saw the chimpanzee girl dancing. She had the head of a chimp, but the body of a very curvaceous girl. She was dancing along with a guy who had the head of a lion.
Suddenly all the walls disappeared and huge letters came up in front of us saying "Level 2 - Unlocked", with a score a hundred points fewer thanks to Mark who was still hopping around enthusiastically.

Dear diary

How do I fit you into a box?
How do I categorize you based on your likes and your dislikes if you keep changing them every day?
Sometimes I think you are a psychopath, but you seem so nice.
But aren't psychopaths supposed to be nice people? People who imitate being emphatic and nice.
Your answer to "What would you wish for if you had three wishes ?" was "Nothing".
Nothing? Really? Not even "Eat anything without gaining weight?" or "Lifetime supply of the most delicious chocolates and ice creams?"
Maybe you are just a really smooth talker and a very closed person.
But aren't these qualities of a psychopath?
...
I was reading the diary entry I made on the day I met you.
I cannot believe I thought that you might be a psychopath.
What did I even know of psychopaths really?
Now that I understand you better and like you and love you and cannot imagine my life without you.
There I said it, I cannot imagine my life without you. You.
You, I like. You, I love. You, I cannot live without.
Look at what you have done to my sentences. I am barely making sense anymore.
You.
...
I need to keep telling myself this. So, I am writing it down.
What happened was an accident. It was not intentional.
It was a prank gone wrong and nothing else.
What happened was an accident. It was not intentional.
It was a prank gone wrong and nothing else.
What happened was an accident. It was not intentional.
It was a prank gone wrong and nothing else.
...
Things have transpired which could have been stopped.
Bad things have happened which should have been stopped.
Whose fault was it? Who should be blamed?
...
Life will not be the same without you.
Look at what you made me do.
Your body a shadow of your former self, your eyes closed, you could just be sleeping.
But we knew it was hopeless all along, dint we?
Even though you insisted otherwise, I knew.
Look where we are now,
Me standing near your coffin, thinking about all your pleas to not do it.
Look what you made me do.

P.S: Needless to say this is fictional people.

Every time I want to write something.

I end up not writing anything.

So this is me not trying to write.

Not making any sense and not even thinking too much about what words I put here.

Just typing.

Not here to get comments on my posts or increase page view of my blog.

This is just a shout into the loud chaos that is the internet.

Squeezing in five minutes from a hectic life which mostly consists of hitting the keyboard repeatedly trying to make sense of things and things of sense.

Just searching and wondering where it all went. The passion, the get-me-a-pen-and-paper-I-just-thought-of-a-world-changing-blog-post writedness (Not even trying to make sense right now)

So, hi there. If anyone is still listening or reading.

If you have read till here know that I already love you.

Why settle ?

Why would you settle?

When your eyes still dream of skies.
When your heart still beats for more.
When every nerve in your body still craves for highs.

Why should you settle?

Try

One foot in front of the other,
One word after another.

Places reached, sentences written.

Why do we need memories ?

Why do we need memories?
We could do without them.

Why think about past summers or bygone rains?
Why dwell on the winters of loneliness or autumns of happiness?

Come live with me in the present.
Love yourself right now.

No reminders of insecurities felt.
No flashbacks of all the failures.

Take away the reminders of love gained or lost,
Take away the thoughts of all the misheard words and held back sentences.

Why do we need memories?
I can so do without them.

Where were you ?

I was here giving up on love, hope and everything nice.
Because after 26 years of existence, I had given up on ever finding someone I like, a person somewhat like me to love, a person to spend the rest of my life with.

I was here having imaginary conversations with myself and wondering if I will ever meet someone with whom I can have deep discussions about the sun and the moon and everything in between.

I was here feeling unpretty, unbeautiful and making up unlovely words to describe myself.

I was here preparing for a life alone or with someone who will never make the effort to ever understand, appreciate or get me. Because I was sure I did not want to be alone.

But I would like to think I was here preparing for you.
For your entry into my life.
So that when you came, you fit into the jigsaw puzzle of my life like you belonged there.
Like all the ridges and breaks were created to fit you in perfectly.
You came and I did not have to move around any of my feelings or emotions or fears and flaws.
You came and our conversations are so much better than any of my imagined ones.
You spoke and look at me here planning out a life with you and not dreading the word forever.
You came and everything is bearable and easy and okay.

Where were you ?

Words

Tracing fingers along favorite words in books to commit them to memory and highlighting sentences.
Reading anything and everything you can see, every hoarding, store name, menu, product label.
Writing down new words over and over again just because you like writing the letters it is made up of or just because wanting to write it down is an itch which needs to be scratched.
And then you read his words. And most of them are about you. You want to commit everything to memory and so you read it over and over again. You want to write down everything and keep them some place safe. Here at last is someone who can roll words into such fine joints and the high you get from this is immeasurable.

People before things...

...Except when it comes to books.

I am one of those people who practices "People before things" - things can be replaced but people cannot be replaced.

So, whenever someone breaks or loses any of my things, I don't get angry or mad or feel bad. Nobody is perfect and people make mistakes and all that blah. I usually forgive and forget if my friend loses say my favorite earring. I just say something like "Those were my favorite pair of earrings. But it's okay." She already knows that those are my favorite and she knows what she did was bad and I should not make her feel worse by shouting at her or crying about it and thereby spoiling the mood of two people. I can make some other pair my favorite and move on.

I took a lot of time to get to the point where I am now with this practice as far as having no favorite things. Now, I don't have any favorites, except books. I love my books. I crib and whine if someone wants to borrow my books. If someone borrows my books, I call them up to ask about their progress and whether they liked it or not but the real intention of calling them is to calculate the time they will take to finish it so that I can call them up and remind them to return it. I might be your worst nightmare if you borrow my books, that is the reason I rarely lend them.

If you ever end up with one of my books, first of all, lucky you (or did you flick it without my knowledge ?), second of all, follow these instructions, please.
Treat the book like a person. Don't touch it too much. Don't fold anything (Would you fold a person ? Would you ? Would you ?) Don't stuff it inside your handbag (Please, for the love of God women) Don't lick it.
Don't write anything on it. Don't keep a paper on MY BOOK and write on it. This might leave the imprint of your writing on MY BOOK.
Don't eat or drink while you are reading my book, not even water. When you feel the urge to eat or drink, keep the book down, move 10 meters away from my book. Curb your urges. Wash your hands and dry them. Wash hands again (just to be safe) and dry them thoroughly and then come back and resume reading.
Don't use it as a toy for your baby or dog or cat or chameleon or snake or rat or ants. Because MY BOOK is not a toy.
Don't leave it out in the sun or the rain or in the middle of the desert or the middle of the river (or lake or ocean or sea or pond or puddle).
Don't spill stuff on it, even by accident. Would you spill something on a person by accident ? OMG! You would. You know what, stay away from my book, you are not getting it.
Sigh! I tried.

Favorite posts - Part 1

Comments are so helpful. Appreciative comments make me want to write more. I love how some bloggers (I am looking at you cookie's crumbs ;)) leave the most thoughtful comments on the posts. I find it a bit lame to write a simple "good post" or just an "awesome post" under those comments. I read each and every post in the 37 blogs I follow on Feedly. I read the post write a comment and then just think about how odd it looks and just erase the whole thing. Or I post a comment and just think how ridiculous it might sound and not comment on any posts I read that day. I have some insecurity issues I need to sort out I guess.

Anyhoo, I thought it would be a great idea to just list all the posts I loved every week or two. So today I have for you some posts which I think you should read and some blogs which I think you should follow (If you are not already which I doubt). So here is the list. Enjoy.. :)

1) Soumya of Life of Leo has a story which is being put up in parts which are really interesting. These are the parts which have been put up so far.
Part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5

2) Cookie crumbs has a really nice series going on about the 99 things that make her scream from joy. I loved this and I have started my list and the fact that I cannot go past 20 really gets my goat. And cookie, I am still waiting for the last part in this list.

3) I recently came across this amazing blog which is called A Walk Across the Bridge. I have read almost all the posts in this blog. But I keep coming back to read two of my favorite posts, Please and Is he ?
If you are not already reading her blog, do go read.

4) This is a blog which I have been following for quite some time now, I have three words "just go read". I just have too many favorite posts in this blog.

5) This witty post by Sreesha of Rain and a Book (and Petrichor and Clouds) which I loved reading and which I read twice but don't know what exactly to comment. Go read it here.

So this is the end of this list. I really hope to write more such lists. I also want to discover new blogs and writers. Comment below and let me know if you have any suggestions.

tahtah :)

You again.

The first drops of rain come down and the sweet smell of the earth is everywhere.
The weather could not be more beautiful.
I am huddled up in my bed with a big sweater and a cup of hot chocolate
Through the open window, I can smell the rain.
I think nothing can make me happier.

And then I think about you. You can.

But you won't and I think nothing can make me sadder.

Not the petrichor of the post rain evening.
Not the lukewarm cup of chocolate.
Not the big sweater under which I have slowly started to sweat.
Nothing.

Losing weight and all the drama that unfolds - #2

It has been exactly one year since I wrote this post. Sometime after I wrote this, this diet stopped working for me. I read somewhere that it happens. Over the next 5 months, I gained 2 kilos back and also lost it. After that I went to attend a friend's wedding in Kolkata, I gained 4 kilos. I ate rasgullas for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I hogged on misti doi like my life depended on it. So I may have got a little, teeny, tiny bit out of control. I could not go on a diet after this. I stuck to my diet portions of food and walked whenever I could and I stopped fretting and checking my weight every other day also the job had started weighing me down and food was the only good thing going on in my life. After a job change, now I am back on track. I am now back to the weight logged in the old post. Yay! me. This was my goal weight one in the 51 in 501 list. :)

Some things I am following now:

1) Gave up juice, I don't love them, but I would drink it if my friend is or if I am offered one in a party or something. I would drink a large cup of coke or Pepsi with burger or pizza (I should just stop eating burger or pizza right ?). Now, replaced all these with water. No more juice or any kind of drinks.

2) Gave up biscuits. I love Bourbon biscuits. But I don't eat them anymore. I don't buy them, don't eat them if offered.

3) Go grocery shopping with a full stomach and a bottle of water. Previously I used to go grocery shopping after 2-3 hours of breakfast and never carried a bottle of water with me which usually ended up with me in the billing counter with at least 3 types of biscuits and 2 cans of some kind of drink which I finished up as soon as I reached home.

4) No more sugar. I have coffee two times a day. With milk. I would like to say it is a small cup, but it is usually a big cup. I have slowly started adding less and less sugar in my coffee and probably by the end of this week or beginning of next week, I will be having my coffee without any sugar. :)

5) Counting calories. I check the calories on everything now. If I am craving for something, I look up the calories for the said thing and calculate how many minutes of walking and exercise is needed to burn those calories and this usually kills off that craving right then and there. Thanks to my sister for this tip.

6) Detox drink. A big bottle of water with a lemon squeezed into it and a few crushed mint leaves (because only lemon gives bad breath) two or three days in a week is enough I guess. Don't take my word on this. You can do a little research of your own. I started getting cold because of this so had to stop after just two weeks.

I tried to give up chocolate and ice creams also, but this is not possible for me. Especially since Tender Coconut ice cream from Naturals Ice Cream has bought a special meaning to my life.

That's about weight loss and thank God there has not been much drama from anyone around.

So like I say, if this helps just one person out there, I will be happy. :)

Blood things

Yellow things and red things,
Blue things and red things.

Your favorite colors yellow and blue,
I adorned your room with just to please you.

Now look all those things have gone red.
Just. Like. You.

Look what you made me do

Look what you made me do.
With a wreath in my hand, I stand near you.
Your body a shadow of your former self,
Your eyes closed, you could just be sleeping.
You look like a very ill person on his way to recovery. Maybe ?
But we knew it was hopeless all along, dint we ?
Even though you insisted otherwise, I knew.
Look where we are now,
Me standing near your coffin, thinking about all your pleas to not do it.
Look what you made me do.

Life update.

1. So I have a 51 in 501 days list of goals now. Making that list has brought a lot of things into perspective. I keep saying that I want to do this, I want to get there, but I never seem to actually achieve any of it. Also, people who are trying to get me gifts can have a looksie and life will be easier for both of us.

2. My blog has crossed 20 thousand views. Yay !! I am also sure that 19 thousand are my own because I love reading my old blog posts.

3. I finally got my hands on "Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Coloring Book", a coloring book for adults. It takes my mind off of all the things which frustrate me, but personally I find reading novels more relaxing. But I love coloring, the finished drawing makes me feel so proud of myself and then I do that thing where I compare it so I go online and check how other people have colored it so beautifully I am back to square one on the pride thing.

4. I got a decent internet connection. Previously I had a 2G data card which tested my patience so much that one not-so-fine day I took it and threw it at the wall and it broke (Just kidding, I stepped on it and the elephant that I am, it broke). So to complete the 16th goal in my 51 in 501 list, I have to get my laptop repaired.

5. I have decided that I will be actively blogging from now onward. As I write this, I can almost hear the universe conspiring against me. Hopefully, I can keep writing.

6. I have started and abandoned the #100DaysOfHappiness challenge on Instagram. I had quit on it in between for a week, and started it again after PeeVee and Sreesha coaxed me to, but I was having a really bad time at work and nothing seemed to make me happy. I will be starting it again sometime in the future and I hope I will be able to finish it the next time. The other reason I stopped is because I felt that it was slowly turning into a 100DaysOfOkayness. I have got a whole post planned for this, so will come back to it later.

So, how are you doing lovely people of the blogosphere ? :)

Reading

I started reading when I was 6 years old. Not exactly read, but I used to go over the pictures in the comic books and make up my own stories. Slowly I started reading those comic books and my dad used to buy Archies and Tinkle for us. I read only comics till I was 11. My first proper novel was Agatha Christie's "Murder in Mesopotamia". I read it twice. The English was difficult and so were some never heard before words. I kept referring to a dictionary for the first few chapters, and then my dad saw my struggle and told me to just go on reading and to understand the context in which it has been used to understand what the word meant. I loved it. I loved the book, the author and promised myself that I would read all her books. I started reading Enid Blyton's "Secret Seven" and "Famous Five" also. I still remember pestering my dad to buy me more books written by Enid Blyton. That is when I chanced upon Harry Potter. I found this book in my cousin's car, my dad was busy speaking with him and I saw this book peeping out of the seat pouch and I started reading it and asked if I can borrow it and he told that he might never read it and asked me to to keep it for myself. I still have this book. I read the second book first and liked it so much that I made my dad buy me the first book and I was hooked. Harry Potter is my first love and will forever be my favorite book. My dad likes legal thriller, medical thriller and thriller in general, so we had a lot of books by John Grisham, Robin Cook, Michael Crichton, David Baldacci, Ken Follet, and I read through them all. I had a 5 month gap after I finished my PUC, before joining engineering, I made full use of this by archiving my dad's entire collection of books. There were over 600 books. Now you know where I get my love for books from. After this it has been a long reading journey..

I have never been able to give a proper review of any book I have read. Some times I give a book a 5 star rating on Goodreads and read some of the reviews and realize that some parts of the book were really a drag and in some there were loopholes which everyone was pointing out. I then realized that for me a good book is all about the way it ended. If the ending was something which I liked then it is an awesome book. So this is me.

I don't think I love anything more than books. Books have taught me and made me what I am today and I love them all, the good ones and the bad ones.

Love

"Love was the rain, drenching you in happiness. It was the sun shining in on your darkness. Love was the wind, blowing away your worries. It was the earth below you, supporting you always. Love was the sky, always there to look up to. It was the clouds, drifting around making you smile. Love was the laughter in your heart. It was a glow oozing out of you. Love was meant to heal. It was supposed to be surreal and it was.
Love changed.
Love felt like the storm, running you down. Love became the scorching sun you wanted to run away from. Love became a tornado, spinning you in circles, stopping you from moving forward on your own. Love was the bump in the road which kept making you trip. Love became the dark sky, not even a single star shining, and looking at it it makes you want to cry. Love became a hole in your heart and it let out all the laughter. It broke you and the pain was all too real."

Inspired from this quote by Neil Gaiman & this video bought to my notice by a cutie called PeeVee here.

Rescue

I want you to come to me, break every wall that stands between us and come to me.
I am standing here alone, with self worn bandages on my hands, my shoulder aches.
Come rescue me.

Break the walls you have built around yourself, like I have broken mine.
That wall you built so that you don't love me so much that you go weak in the knees when you see me.
The other one which was meant to not make me fall in love with you.

If you love me now, you already know the walls are paper thin.
Tear through them, burn them.
Come rescue me.

P.S : Have you ever written something and it made a lot of sense when you wrote it and you feel that it would make no sense to people who will read it, but still you want to put it out there because you really want to see if someone out there can understand it and say "so relate-able".
P.P.S : Fictional

Losing weight and all the drama that unfolds.

You know what is the most annoying thing ? People around you telling you to lose weight.

Can you believe that I have found a thing which is more annoying after losing the weight ?

Me - I went to gym :) :)
Them - Oh!! Don't join gym. Your weight will increase suddenly if you stop going. You should not have joined gym.

Me - I took up Herbalife (protein drink) for breakfast and green tea :) :)
Them - So you just have to drink that ? (like this is easy to do) I am sure that if you stop it you will increase like anything.

Me - I went on a diet and replaced my dinner with fruits.
Them - What if you cant continue it after your marriage ? Are you going to starve your husband ? You have to start eating dinner after marriage and then you will put on weight very quick.

Me - It just went away. I don't even know how ? I could not be more happier ;-) :)
Them - Suddenly everything will come back. Just wait.

OMG !! Can some people BE more annoying ?

I really did lose a lot of weight - like 10 kilos in 7 months. Now, I have to listen to all these jibes about it.

It was not easy. I get hungry very quick. I have an enormous appetite. The fact that I absolutely love food does not help in the least. It is a constant day to day struggle to not succumb to all my cravings and to indulge in them only once every week.

Here is what I did, if it helps one person out there, I would be happy.

After waking up I do 50 crunches.

Breakfast - 300ml of protein drink . I alternate between Herbalife and getrim. The fact that I love milk helps a lot. I read that sucrose and fructose (which is present in protein drinks) is not so good for the body so sometimes I have 2 idlis. The problem with idlis is I cant have them every day.

Mid morning snack - I have breakfast at 7am. I have to catch the bus at 7.25am. So, I if I don't have a mid morning snack I might just die. So I carry a little approx 20gm of saffola muesli and have it around 10.30am.

Lunch - A normal lunch but I have reduced it from 4 small chapatis to 3 small chapatis. I brought smaller boxes to carry rice items in. Now, I get full with just 2 chapatis. Wheat dosas or ragi dosas have the lowest calories, of course if you have it with chutney.

Evening snack - Around 6pm I eat at least 3 biscuits usually McVities Digestive and drink atleast 300ml of water.

I reach home at 8.10pm. I go for a walk for at least 45 minutes. If I reach early like before 8, I walk for an hour. If I think that I am going to reach very late like after 8.30pm, I get down from the bus some 4 or 5 stops from mine and walk to my house.

Night - I have a normal dinner (little rice or 1 chapati or 2 dosas) if I go for walk. When I don't go for walk because it is raining out or because I just feel lazy, I eat a little bit of fruits usually papaya or apple and drink buttermilk.

If I ever feel hungry in between meals (read always) I have 3-4 almonds and drink a lot of water.

Now half of my cousins know that I take Herbalife. I can see them sitting there in my marriage hall (no, I am not getting married right now, my parents are still searching) and making it a point to tell each and every one that I reduced weight by drinking Herbalife. They think I am taking the easy way out. If I were taking the easy way out, I would just pop some tablets (Herbalife has those and these tablets are way cheaper than the protein powders, but I was never and I never will be the person to take the easy (unhealthy too, or so I have read) way out, I love working hard towards my goals).

It is really hard to wake up everyday with the resolve to lose weight. I get my heart broken a dozen times when I check my weight and see that it has increased. I am slowly getting used to it. Do you know how effing hard it is to say no if someone offers a second chocolate ? And don't even get me started on chocolate. I have told all my friends to never buy me chocolate. Now, I feel sad if they don't buy it for me. When I am PMSing I crave for good food. It gets so hard to not maintain the diet during these times (If some knows how to curb these cravings, I would love me some tips)

On the bright side I have reduced 2 sizes in some and one size in some brands. The belts which are sold in malls and will not wear out for 2-3 years never used to fit me, and now they do. I have been told that I look awesome now (I hated that compliment because they meant that I was not awesome before which is a lie because I am always awesome ;-)) . I changed my wardrobe (not completely), I have stopped wearing clothes which make me one with the wall behind me. I have a bright yellow and a bright red sweatshirts :).

I used to do a lot of stress eating and now I do stress shopping. I have a bit of control on this now. But, it has a tendency to get out of hand sometimes. I put all the money I saved by not eating into buying new clothes :)

I would love to hear about any such incidents that you or your friends have gone through. Any suggestions, like a low calorie tasty recipe would also be very helpful :)
