How it works..

Suppose you never had a pizza in your entire life. You are happy eating pakoras and drinking coffee. But as time goes by and you see people around you eating pizza, you feel the need to eat a pizza yourself. However interesting and addictive eating pakoras and drinking coffee is, you know you would really like to eat a pizza now. So, you write a post about it like this.

Here is how it works for normal people:
Your parents tell you that they are ready to get you a pizza. You crib a little. Everyone around tells you that you better select the toppings you would like. You select some toppings and go see if they have a pizza with the toppings which you have selected. You find a almost similar pizza and one fine grand day, you invite a truck load of people to watch you eat the pizza. You make a decision to love and eat the same pizza you just ate for the rest of your life. The end.

Here is how it happens to some people:
Your parents tell you that they are going to get you a pizza. You are so happy. You do a little dance and you are happy and ready to welcome some change in your life. Your sister or bestest friend tell you to select the toppings you would want. You are so confused about the toppings. Crust is not really important you see as what is inside is what matters. So, you think about the toppings on and off but never really settled on any one. You know you would like pakoras on the pizza and you definitely don't want coffee on it. Of that much you are sure. You want it to be a fun pizza. With little surprises in between. So, one fine day you get a chance to see the pizza., not eat it just see it. Remember, you are still not sure what toppings you want. So, the pizzas are already made with the toppings and all. You go and it turns out that to have that particular pizza, you have to have certain characteristics. Now, you are in a puddle. You don't really know what you want, but this pizza seems to know what kind of person it wants to be eaten by. You feel like you have turned up to write an exam and have not prepared for anything. You feel nervous, apprehensive. You screw up just like you always did in all your exams because you never in your life turned up for any exam fully prepared and for this you are prepared 0%.

And that guys is how groom hunting for an arrange marriage is going to work. You are just someone else's pizza and all your characteristics is your toppings.

Right now I am so jealous of all the people who have already eaten the pizza or have already decided what pizza they are going to have or at least know what exact toppings they want. And me ? I am still supposed to be thinking about the toppings. If I liked what I saw or not. I don't really know how I am supposed to do that. How exactly do you know what you would want on a pizza ?

P.S : I read somewhere that people who love to read fantasy and fiction are the people who don't like the real world that they live in. I am loving reading these two genres so much right now that I scared myself a little. :(

  1. What a twist! I really started thinking how grave the choice of pizza toppings is. It just turned out to be a more serious issue. :P Well compared! :)

  2. I love fiction and hate fantasy. Fiction is real, very real. What makes you think otherwise?

Oh girl, not to laugh at your dilemma, but I can't help it. **Your brains** Comparing Pizza and a Groom!
Do you really think you do not like the world in which there are people who love you and want to see you happy just because you like reading fantasy and fiction?
Sister, you are just having the jitters. Chill.. or rather Try to remain chill.

  6. ROFL This is the most brilliant analogy I've ever read in my life!!!

Not to say that I've any experience - only about to turn 17, after all - but this post does resonate to me on so many levels. My aunt got married just one year back and I was a witness to her dilemma. Besides, every friend of mine keeps making the same comment, "It's going to be a tough job to find a guy for you - do you even live on this world?"

Me: So what if it's going to be tough? I'll know that I've found the Right One (assuming he exists) if he's crazy about books (esp. Harry Potter) as I am and is ready to join my Alternate Universe.

I've heard many people say that too - "fantasy is a crutch for those who can't handle reality." Pfft. In my opinion, reality is a crutch for those who don't have the imagination to accept fantasy/fiction.

Okay, now I'm off to order a pizza. This post made me hungry :D

    1. *hugs* for such a long and lovely comment :) :)

Had to have an analogy coz I dint want the post to be boring and believe me it would be if not for the comparison.. :) :)

So right about the "reality is a crutch for those who don't have the imagination to accept fantasy/fiction" Now, why dint I think of that.. :) :)

Thanks for the comment dear.. :)

  7. I absolutely love your analogy- it is so apt! I re-read the whole thing again, replacing 'pizza' with 'groom' and 'toppings' with 'characteristics'. So... groom hunting, huh? Can't relate, but it sucks when people already have strict predefined notions of who they're going to marry. I think you should choose a crust (because some idea is required), but taste the toppings that come your way, and choose the pizza with the best possible toppings. You'll be surprised with what you find.... maybe coffee and pakora in the same pizza would make sense after all!

I think there are two kinds of people who read fantasy and fiction- ones who are so tired of the world that they wish to escape, and others who are open to new possibilites and inventions. Connecting that to your post, I think you probably belong to the second category. Just keep your heart open and love will find its way! :)

    1. Hope you also replaced 'eat' with marriage. Hehehe.. :)
I too think that choosing all the toppings is really tiring.. I love surprises, have done always..

Thanks a lot dear.. That was a lovely comment.. :) :) *hugs*

  8. I get the pizza point, but that doesn't work for vegans like me haha... but that thing about fantasy and science fiction it's true! I'm always runninh away from my reality and creating a world of my own....if only that was possible.,., is that bad?...who knows....i just wish for a more magical world

  9. See , no matter what toppings you get after a while they seem to get boring. Like if you LOVED and got anchovies and you had to eat anchovies for the rest of your life..it would get boring!
What really matters is the base..make sure you get the best possible base and you can always refresh the topppings to just the way you like them ;)

    1. Hmmm.. interesting.. What exactly does base refer to here ??

  12. Me-er.... Jeez!! What a post!! :) :) i had no idea you would make an analogy of Pizza with Arranged Marriage. Trust me I love different toppings, based on my mood... how about that :P :P

Also, I love ready fantasy fiction and i totally go by what Bill Watterson says "Reality continues to ruin my life!"

This was a lovely read! And great blog!! :)

  13. Haha...that analogy cracked me up. Life's too short to stick with just one pizza topping all the time...experimentation is good ;) On a serious note though, good luck. I love fantasy and fiction...might explain my current relationship status at 30! :P But can't say I'm not enjoying my life!

  15. You had my attention from the first sentence! I kept reading, thinking of possible things this whole pizza/pakora/coffee thing is a metaphor for :P
But the arranged marriage surprised me. Now that I think about it, it makes a lot of sense, haha, this is actually pretty spot on. Loved your analogy!
